Celebrations have begun at The Albion Academy today as GCSE qualifications are awarded nationally.

This year – the first to return to pre-pandemic exam arrangements – 54% of students at the school achieved a grade of 4 or above in English and maths, with 38% of students achieving grade 5 or above in both subjects. This represents significant improvements since the last comparable figures in 2019.

There were some high performances across the Year 11 group, with a number of top grades, including for:

  • Abrrar Al-Chaab, who achieved grade 9s in both English Literature and Language;
  • Gabriella Whittaker, who achieved grade 9s in English Literature and History, with a grade 8 in English Language;
  • Oliver Lyjak, who achieved high grades across English, Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Geography;
  • Mohamed Rezaei Bazkiei, who achieved grade 9s in Maths and Chemistry, as well as grade 8s in Biology and Physics.

Commenting on students’ achievements, Mathew Rogers, Principal at The Albion Academy, said:

“Our Year 11 students have achieved really well this year. Against a backdrop of educational disruption caused by Covid-19 the students have shown real resilience and ambition in their studies. These results are a credit to them and are well deserved. Equally, I know how hard our staff have worked to support students to achieve highly, so it is gratifying that this joint effort has once again paid off.

“We now have many students gaining strong grades across the board, providing a springboard to college and university. In particular, it is pleasing to see significant increases in the numbers of students achieving good passes in the core subjects of English and maths, which are so critical for future success in life. We wish our students continued success as they embark on the next stages in their lives.”
