Inspectors highlight the “broad and ambitious” curriculum.

Students and staff at The Lowry Academy are celebrating this week after Ofsted rated the school ‘Good’ across the board following an inspection in February.

In their report, inspectors praised the quality of the academic curriculum. Describing it as “broad and ambitious”, they also commended the “consistent and effective approach” of teachers who are said to work well together to reflect on and improve their teaching methods.

Importantly, the inspectors also highlighted the warm and studious culture of the school. They noted that students “feel happy in school” and that the classrooms they learn within are “calm and purposeful environments”. Furthermore, new students are said to settle in quickly, aided by the existence of “clear and well-adopted routines for how pupils should learn and behave”.

According to the report, alongside providing a high-quality academic education, the school is equally “committed to raising pupils’ aspirations” and broadening their horizons through a range of extracurricular activities, complemented by an extensive careers guidance programme. This supports students’ wider character development and ensures that they are well-equipped for the next stage of their lives.

Claire Coy, Principal of The Lowry Academy, said:

“We are very pleased with the outcome of our latest Ofsted inspection, which found The Lowry Academy to be ‘Good’ in all four inspection categories. The inspectors’ highly encouraging report is testament to the hard work of both students and staff who make our school such a warm and nurturing place to learn. In the coming months and years, we very much look forward to building upon the strengths highlighted in the report and continuing to offer our students an excellent education which sets them up for bright and successful futures.”

Ben Antell, Director of Secondary Academies at United Learning, said:

“This is an extremely positive and strong report which demonstrates the transformation of the school over the past few years and validates the decisions and approach that the leadership team have taken in improving the education the students receive at the school. We know that everyone across the school community will be pleased and proud of this achievement.”
