Year 11s set to join academy’s Sixth Form in September
Off the back of last week’s A Level success, students and staff at Walthamstow Academy are continuing the celebrations as students receive their GCSE results.
Over three quarters (76%) of students achieved a grade 4 or above in English and maths and 59% achieved the higher grade 5 or above in both subjects. These raft of strong grades will enable many students to take up their places at the academy’s Sixth Form in September.
Some of the academy’s most notable individual successes include:
-
Julian Hall, who achieved six grade 9s, two 8s and a Distinction*;
-
Omar Hassan, who achieved five grade 9s in maths, religious studies and the three sciences;
-
Ibrahim Ahmed, who achieved nine grades 8-9, including grade 9s in history, maths, English Language, PE and the three sciences;
-
Alana Smith, who achieved eight grades 7-9, including grade 9s in religious studies and Spanish;
-
Syrine Ghiat, who achieved nine grades 7-9, including grade 9s in religious studies, French, English Literature and English Language;
- Erin Young, who achieved nine grades 7-9, including grade 9s in history, English Literature and English Language;
- Mohammad Dawood, who achieved seven grades 7-9, including grade 9 in religious studies and grade 8s in maths, business and combined science.
Speaking about his success, Julian said:
“I am immensely proud of the results I received today! Absolutely unbelievable, and a credit to my hard work, as well as the great efforts of the teachers at Walthamstow Academy. This means very exciting things for the future and I’m ready to take the next step.”
Ibrahim noted:
“Not only do I feel like my academic potential has been achieved but I feel like I have grown as a person and developed skills such as dedication, teamwork and perseverance. I owe great thanks to all the teachers from Year 7 all the way through to today. Without their commitment to their subjects and to us as students, I honestly believe that I wouldn’t be where I am now.”
Alana added:
“The past five years have been so enjoyable and I got the best results I could thanks to all of the help from the teachers.”
These results follow the academy’s equally impressive set of A Level results last week, which saw Sixth Formers secure places at some of the UK’s top Russell Group institutions. These include Imperial College London, University of Manchester and King’s College London.
Emma Skae, Principal at Walthamstow Academy, said:
“Many congratulations to our Year 11 students celebrating today. GCSE qualifications are an important stepping stone for all students in their education. Buoyed by the skills, knowledge and academic outcomes they have achieved today, our young people are able to successfully move forward and take up very well-deserved places at Sixth Form or College.
“We are particularly pleased to be welcoming so many of our Year 11s into our Walthamstow Academy Sixth Form in September. Here, they will continue to benefit from the support of staff they know well and the many wider opportunities and experiences available to them.”
