GB Olympic Gold medallist and England Hockey player Alex Danson visited Greenacre School, in Banstead, Surrey on Saturday 12 November to run a Hockey Workshop for Year 5 girls.
60 girls from Greenacre and other United Learning and local schools including Caterham Prep, Rowan Prep, Surbiton High Girls’ Prep and St Ives, Hazelmere, braved the torrential rain and were put through their paces in hockey practices, followed by matches in a versatility tournament on Greenacre’s on-site all weather pitch. Alex led a warm up similar to that of the GB Team and spent the morning imparting her hockey knowledge and demonstrating her impressive hockey skills. She was truly inspirational and proudly showed off her most favoured possession - her Gold medal from Rio 2016! Alex praised the girls for their determination and resilience in the wet weather conditions and shared with us the Great Britain Hockey catch phrase of #ifitsnotrainingitsnottraining, which we had certainly put to the test that morning!
