This year at the academy, nearly two-thirds (63%) of students achieved a grade four or above in both English and maths, with 40% achieving grade 5 or above in the two subjects. There were also improved outcomes seen across the board with particular subject area successes in triple science, art, music and physical education.

Across the year group there were a total of 59 grade 9s achieved – a fantastic achievement for the young people. Among those celebrating top grades were:

• Poppy Sheppard, who achieved six grade 9s and three grade 8s;
• Ethan Chilvers, who achieved six grade 9s, one grade 8, one grade 7 and one grade 6;
• Lily Colfer, who achieved six grade 9s, two grade 8s and one grade 7;
• Luca Waghorn, who achieved four grade 9s, three grade 8s, one grade 7 and one grade 6;
• Valentine Cunliffe, who achieved three grade 9s, three grade 8s and three grade 7s;
• Izzy Webster, who achieved three grade 9s, four grade 8s and two grade 7s;
• Kaci Rushton, who achieved two grade 9s, five grade 8s and two grade 7s.

Ethan Chilvers, 16, is now going to Aquinas College to study Politics, Economics and Law, with aspirations to then study International Politics at Oxbridge. He said:

“Opening my results was a nerve-wracking experience, but when I saw them it was really good to see how well I’ve done. I’ve had a really good time at Stockport Academy and I’ve got the results I wanted, so it’s all been worth it.”

Izzy Webster, 16, spent her final year as the school’s Chair of the Prefectural Board, she now plans to study Politics, English Language, Maths and Further Maths at Aquinas. She said:

“I’m excited for a new start, but it’s a bittersweet day. Stockport Academy made me the person who I am today and has given me lots of opportunities both within and outside of the curriculum.”

For next year’s Year 11s about to embark on their final year, she gave this advice:

“Start revision early, it sounds like a cliché but it is so useful. It’s important not to overload yourself as well. Work hard and you will reap the rewards!”

Commenting on students’ achievements, Janine McCann, Principal at Stockport Academy, said:

“It has been fantastic to see students celebrating this morning as they receive their GCSE results. We are always proud of our students and we know how hard this group of young people has worked, but this is a particularly significant moment for each of them as they see the results of their efforts and determination over many years. It is brilliant that our young people have some results they can take pride in and that will enable them to take their next steps in life and education.”
