Heath Lane Academy Takes Positive Step Forward at GCSEs

More students securing a pass in both English and Maths.

As GCSE results are published around the country, students and staff at Heath Lane Academy in Leicestershire have been marking a significant improvement in key headline measures.

This year, 46% of students achieved a grade four or above in both English and Maths, which represents an increase of seven percentage points on the previous year. This encouraging picture was mirrored in the proportion of Year 11s gaining a grade 5 or above in both English and maths – this increased 11 percentage points to 31%.

In addition, those celebrating particular individual successes today included:

  • Lewis, who achieved a grade 9, three grade 8s, two grade 7s and three grade 6s;
  • Ruby, who achieved a grade 9, a grade 8, two grade 7s and five grade 6s;
  • Jenna, who achieved a grade 9, a grade 8, a grade 7 and five grade 6s;
  • Ella, who achieved a grade 9, a grade 8, two grade 7s and a grade 6;
  • Millie, who achieved a grade 9, four grade 7s and a grade 6;
  • Rhys, who achieved five grade 8s and two grade 6s;
  • Phoebe, who achieved four grade 8s, two grade 7s and two grade 6s.

Many pupils were delighted with their results and are looking forward to starting their A Level studies. Describing their aspirations now they have secured their GCSE results, one Year 11, Shaun, said:

“My results are even better than I was expecting. I am now going on to do A Levels at Sixth Form before joining the RAF.”

Boluwatife added:

“My grades will enable me to study A Levels and then I’m looking to study engineering at university.”

Today’s results represent a significant improvement in the proportion of students gaining a pass in both English and maths – at the 4+ and 5+ levels alike – and reflect the efforts of the whole school community to drive up standards and achievement.
