Paddington Academy Students Achieve Best Results Ever!

Catgeories : GCSE results Group news

As GCSE results are received across the country today, students at Paddington Academy are celebrating the highest results in the school’s eighteen-year history.

Nearly three-quarters of students this year (73%) achieved a grade 5 or above in both English and Maths, and nearly nine-in-ten students (87%) achieved a grade 4 or above. This represents strong improvements of five percentage points in each measure on the already high results of last year. In addition, over a third (36%) of grades in all subjects were the highest grades of 7-9.

Among the top performers celebrating today were:

  • Twins Ali and Leen Aldahlaki: Ali gained a perfect score of ten grade 9s and Leen achieved nine grade 9s and one grade 8;

  • Muflih Ahmed, who earned a perfect score of ten grade 9s;

  • Shahd Kharsane and Yara Rommdan, who both achieved eight grade 9s and two grade 8s.

These results follow a fantastic day of celebrations last week, as the academy’s Sixth Form marked its own successes. 38% of all A Level grades awarded this year were A*-A, and 91% were A*-C enabling Sixth Formers to secure a range of excellent university places, including places at the University of Oxford and more than 45% gaining places at Russell Group universities.

Congratulating students, Peter Jones, Principal at Paddington Academy, said:

“We are really pleased that this year group has set a high watermark for achievement by Paddington students at GCSE and that so many are celebrating today. It was particularly pleasing to see 16 students gaining a grade 9 in Maths – more than double what would be expected by national statistics – and 27 students achieve this in Religious Studies at three times the average.

“Our students work incredibly hard in Year 11 not only in their classes but also through engaging with our intervention programme, which means they benefit from an extra hour-and-a-half at school each day with the support of their teachers. It has been fantastic to see the commitment of staff and students alike to this and that its positive impact on achievement is borne out in students’ results.

“We look forward to welcoming a high percentage of these students into our large Sixth Form as they have thoroughly earned their place here by doing so well.”
