The John Roan School Celebrates Hard Work and Determination of Students as GCSEs Are Released

Catgeories : GCSE results Group news

Students at The John Roan School in Greenwich are celebrating today, as they receive their GCSE results alongside other young people across the country.

This year, over half of Year 11 students at the school (54%) achieved a grade four or above in English and maths, and over a third (34%) achieved a grade 5 or above in the two subjects. There were also particular successes in several subject areas – this includes the school’s history department, which saw 40% of students achieving a grade 7 or above.

Amongst those students celebrating their own standout performances were:

  • Alfie, who achieved an impressive ten grade 9s and will be staying on for Sixth Form
  • India, who is celebrating ten grade 8s or above
  • Lilly, who achieved nine grade 8s or above
  • Ting Ting and Jae’da, who both achieved eight grade 7s or above

The school has also been taking time to celebrate dedicated individuals who have achieved good results after overcoming adversities and language barriers, including students who joined the school from Ukraine. Students who made notable progress as a result of their hard work and determination include India, Ida, Jae'da, Fabian, Shalina and Nika.

After receiving their results today, one Year 11 student said:

I’d like to thank all of the teachers for creating an environment at the school that has allowed me to succeed today.”

A parent of the school also added:

The school has been such a great support to my daughter and I am delighted with her results today and knowing that she has two more great years in the Sixth Form here.”

Those students now continuing onto the school’s Sixth Form will be well supported in their studies and individual interests – as showcased last week by the rich variety of destinations secured by outgoing Sixth Formers. Many of the Year 13s secured their first-choice university places, which included top UK institutions, such as the University of Cambridge and Imperial College London.

Commenting on students’ achievements, Cath Smith, Principal at The John Roan School, said:

I would like to congratulate our Year 11s on the character, determination and work ethic they have displayed over the course of their studies. As with our Sixth Formers last week, it is fantastic to see these young people achieving well and thriving as individuals, no matter their starting point or any obstacles they may face.

“As always, I would like to thank the entire school community for their support of and commitment to the school, which makes days like today ones that we can all take pride in. We very much look forward to using this summer’s achievements as inspiration as we go into the new academic year and we are happy that so many of our Year 11s will be returning to our Sixth Form as we do so.”
