Twins at KBA secure university places to study law and medicine

Catgeories : A Level results

Pupils and staff at Kettering Buccleuch Academy (KBA) are celebrating after A Level and Level 3 BTEC results were published earlier today, with Sixth Formers securing a strong set of results enabling them to successfully take their next steps.

This includes twins Kiran Taggar and Jeevan Taggar both of whom were awarded two A*s and an A at A Level. Kiran is now set to study Law at the University of Warwick and Jeevan will be reading Medicine at the University of Nottingham.

Speaking of her achievement, Kiran said:

“I could not have done it without the teaching staff at KBA and I am really excited to go on to read Law.”

Jeevan added:

“I want to thank all the teachers at KBA for their support. I am delighted that I am able to realise my aspiration to study Medicine.”

Other top performers at A Level who are going on to some of the country’s top institutions, including the University of Cambridge, are:

  • Laura Lis, who was awarded an A* and three As, and is going to study Modern and Medieval Languages at Robinson College, University of Cambridge;
  • Carys Barron, who was awarded an A* and two As, and is going to study Physics at the University of Manchester;
  • Owen Shipley, who was awarded three As, and is going to study Civil Engineering including an Industrial Year at the University of Nottingham.

Laura said:

“I'm pretty speechless. I am so excited to study Languages at Cambridge – it's honestly a dream come true. I'm extremely grateful for all the support I received while at KBA. My teachers were amazing and the staff have been so helpful and encouraging today.”

Overall, the school achieved a 100% pass rate amongst its A Level entries, with over half (58%) of entries securing A*-B grades.

There were likewise some impressive Level 3 BTEC performances at the school. Chrissie Burke achieved two Distinction*s and a Distinction and will be studying Nursing at the University of Lincoln, whilst Lily-Ann Batchelor achieved a Distinction* and two Distinctions and will be studying Law at the University of Nottingham.

These results build on the school’s recent Ofsted outcome in which it was judged to have met the ‘strong standard’ for its post-16 provision with students said to be “very well prepared for the next stage of their education, employment or training”.

Chloe Buckenham, Principal at Kettering Buccleuch Academy, said:

“We are incredibly proud of our students who have achieved some exceptional outcomes. Our Sixth Form at KBA is the hallmark of excellence for us and to see our students realising their aspirations on results day is without question one of the highlights of the academic year.

“Having secured places at some of the nation’s most prestigious universities and with some standout apprenticeship providers and employers, our Year 13s leave behind a legacy of success. They have been superb role models for our younger students and we cannot wait to welcome them back to school as part of our alumni community."
