Television historian and University of Manchester’s Professor of Public History Michael Wood paid a visit to Manchester Academy, giving students a glimpse into the city’s past.
The visit, organised as part of the Moss Side school’s partnership with the University of Manchester, saw Professor Wood (well known for his BBC documentaries and in particular the ‘In Search of…’ series) meet with Year 10 geographers and historians, taking them on a trip through time and looking at how the area has changed over the years, particularly as a result of migration and the Industrial Revolution.
Commenting on the visit, Manchester Academy Principal Andy Griffin said:
“We’re very lucky to have had someone of Professor Wood’s calibre come and talk with the students, giving them an exciting insight into how the city has changed over time. The visit also really helped to inspire those who took part by helping bring history to life and making it real for our students.”
