Big business teams up with higher education to showcase post-school opportunities
Big business teamed up with higher education at Sheffield Park Academy’s latest ‘aspiration day’ to showcase to students the exciting opportunities on offer when they leave school
Held on Saturday (14th May) at the Beaumont Road North site, the event was aimed at Year 7 to 13 students from Sheffield Park Academy, as well as from fellow United Learning academies Barnsley, Sheffield Springs and John Smeaton (Leeds), helping them to understand what can be expected from them when seeking employment or a place in higher education.
Following an opening address by Colonel George Kilburn, Chief Executive of the Company of Cutlers in Sheffield, about the importance of raising aspirations, the 300 plus attending took part in a variety of activities and workshops with representatives from local business and Russell Group universities, looking at career pathways and university aspirations respectively.
Amongst those companies and higher education organisations attending were: Barclays, AMRC, Lloyds, Irwin Mitchell, BHP, Nabarro, Work Wise, Emmanuel College Cambridge and Sheffield Chambers of Commerce.
Commented Executive Principal Craig Dillon:
"As last year’s event was so successful, we decided to repeat it again this year, with a bigger and better format, as well as opening it up to students from United Learning’s other Yorkshire academies. Once again, it has proved to be a winning formula, giving those attending plenty of food for thought in respect of career opportunities.”
