Barnsley Academy students created a winter wonderland for local pensioners, treating them to a feast of fantastic food and entertainment.
Working alongside the Stairfoot Ward Alliance and Berneslai Homes, the academy hosted a special tea dance on Wednesday (12th December), entitled ‘Waltzing in a Winter Wonderland.’
One of the key aims of the event was to improve inter-generational links and tackle loneliness, with the academy students interacting with their elderly guests to give them an afternoon to remember.
Preparing and serving the food were the academy’s hospitality and catering students, whilst dance, drama and music students provided the entertainment, with support from other local agencies.
Commenting on the event, Stephen Dixon, Principal of Barnsley Academy, said:
“As a school committed to providing its students with an education with character, an important part of our student’s personal development is for them to gain a greater appreciation of their local community, the people in it and the role we can all play in helping to improve people’s lives.
“Wednesday’s event was a perfect example of that and our students did a wonderful job of looking after our special guests.”
