Bournemouth Collegiate School (BCS) is to leave United Learning and become the flagship UK school for the Chinese-backed, international schools group, Bright Scholar.
Making the announcement, Jon Coles, Chief Executive of United Learning said:
“Our decision to take up Bright Scholar’s approach has been driven by what we believe is in the best interests of BCS and in the best interests of our growing group of independent schools. Since we took on its two, failing predecessor schools in 2009, we have invested over £5m in BCS and, as a result, have created a highly successful and well-run school. By joining Bright Scholar, which has committed to continued investment in the school, BCS will have the opportunity to continue to grow”.
“We are confident that Bright Scholar will be an excellent owner for the school. We have been impressed by their track record, their openness and transparency and their ambition for the school.”
“The proceeds of the sale will be used to support further investment in our other schools, to the benefit of the children and families they serve.”
“We look forward to retaining our close partnership with BCS over the next 12 months and beyond. We are confident that, through Bright Scholar, the school will have the opportunity to build on its existing strengths and have an excellent future as a successful school”.
