Castle View Academy enjoys GCSE success

Students and staff at Castle View Academy are celebrating the awarding of GCSE qualifications today, after another challenging year due to the pandemic.

This year, GCSEs were awarded following Teacher Assessed Grades (TAGs) due to the cancellation of external examinations. As part of this assessment process, students at Castle View sat moderated examinations and completed a variety of coursework to demonstrate the progress they had made.

Today was an opportunity to recognise the considerable hard work and determination of students over the past five years, especially with the blended curriculum they have faced over the last 18 months as a result of Covid-19 restrictions.

Among those celebrating particular individual successes were:

  • Tallulah Standen and Phoebe Long, who were both awarded seven of the top Grade 9s, a Grade  7 and a Distinction* – the highest available in BTEC;
  • Margarida Costa, who was awarded four Grade 9s, three Grade 8s, a Grade 6, a Grade 5 and a Distinction*;
  • Jack Matthews, who was awarded three Grade 9s, three Grade 7s, a Distinction* and a Distinction;
  • Martina Moro Santos, who was awarded three Grade 9s, a Grade 8, two Grade 7s, three Grade 6s and a Distinction.

Commenting on the achievements of students, Christian Down, Principal at Castle View Academy, said:

“This group of Year 11s has shown tremendous resilience, perseverance and ambition through what has been a challenging time for everyone. Although the awarding process remains different from previous years, our students can take great pride in the qualifications they have been awarded today, knowing that their hard work has been worthwhile. With these grades, they can confidently and successfully take their next steps in education and into the world of work and we look forward to seeing them begin what I hope and expect will be bright futures ahead.”
