Students at Paddington Academy and Wilberforce Primary light up opening ceremony with electric performance

On Saturday 26 October 2013, students from Paddington Academy and Wilberforce Primary impressed tens of thousands of people with a spectacular dance performance at the Opening Ceremony of the Rugby League World Cup which was held in the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

The students from Years 5 to 11 had been rehearsing intensively since the beginning of term and even attended after-school rehearsals at weekends to achieve peak perfection in their dance routine. The performance showcased the work that the talented students had put together during workshops with professional dancers and choreographers from Pro-Excel. The students were joined in their dance extravaganza by almost 500 other dancers from other schools across south west England and Wales.

Zosia Shimell, Head of Dance at Paddington Academy, said:

“I am very proud of the commitment and dedication shown by all of the students. They have produced an outstanding piece of work that highlights the exquisite talent that our students possess. This was a once in a life time performance and each student rose to the challenge and performed every part impeccably.’

Phoebe Razik, Year 8 student at Paddington Academy, said:

“We had so much fun rehearsing for this routine and I am so happy to have been taking part in such an amazing event. The crowd was overwhelming and I never thought I could perform at such a big event.”
