Double celebration as Carter Community School moves into new buildings

Whilst students and teachers across the country were eager to return to school last week, students at Carter Community School had an extra reason for feeling excited about their first day back as they were finally able to move into their brand new buildings.

Students were thrilled to explore the new buildings which are equipped with first-class facilities including:

  • A catering room;
  • A graphic and textiles room;
  • A new English block with CTouch screens in every classroom;
  • A drama studio with a full lighting and sound set up;
  • Three new science rooms with prep room;
  • A fantastic new library resource centre to support reading and independent study.

To mark the completion of the school building which signals a new chapter in its history, the school is due to change its name to The Cornerstone Academy.  The new name, which was chosen through consultation with parents, staff and students and will start to be used from the Summer Term, reflects the school’s focus on providing a high-quality education to all students.

Welcoming the students into the new buildings, Principal Sam Davidson said:

“It’s been a double celebration this week.  To welcome our students back and to see them start learning in our brand new classrooms has been absolutely fantastic.  Whilst we are adhering to all the social distancing and Covid-secure measures, it has been great to see the students explore the new classrooms and outdoor spaces and start to benefit from the facilities.  These buildings provide a superb learning environment for our students and I look forward to working with staff to make best use of the space and facilities we have.

“I’m grateful to BCP Council for their support as well as our neighbours for their understanding during the construction phase.  I look forward to sharing our new facilities with the local community.”
