First day as academies for Hunningley and Worsbrough Bank End Primary Schools

Hunningley and Worsbrough Bank End Primary Schools today welcomed back their children and staff after the half term break for their first day as academies.

In becoming academies, the two Barnsley schools, which already work in partnership, have joined United Learning – a group of academies and independent schools located across the country.  As part of United Learning, pupils will be able to enjoy exciting activities designed to enhance their overall school experience and staff will benefit from the Group’s wide range of high-quality professional development opportunities.

Nic Thorpe, Executive Head Teacher at Hunningley and Bank End said:

“Today follows a thorough consultation with staff and parents who, together with the governors, strongly welcome our move to academy status.  We are excited about all the opportunities that being part of United Learning creates for our pupils, staff and parents and look forward to meeting all the other schools in the Group and working with them.”

Jon Coles, Chief Executive of United Learning, said:

“Hunningley and Worsbrough Bank End schools are flourishing, nurturing and ambitious schools and we are very pleased to welcome them into our group.  As academies and part of United Learning, the schools will retain their ethos, culture and everything that pupils, parents and staff currently value about them.  We will work alongside the schools to enhance the already excellent school experience enjoyed by pupils.

“Nic Thorpe and her team have a great deal of expertise to offer us and we look forward to learning from them, as well as sharing our own expertise and resources.  Both schools are very welcome additions to our growing cluster of schools in Yorkshire.”
