GCSE delight at Nova Hreod And Swindon Academies

Students at Nova Hreod and Swindon Academy, both part of United Learning, are celebrating their GCSE grades today after an unprecedented year of learning.

This year, as with A Levels, GCSEs were awarded following Teacher Assessed Grades (TAGs) due to the cancellation of external examinations. As part of this assessment process, students at the academies sat exams and completed coursework.

This morning was an excellent opportunity to congratulate students for their hard work and perseverance in the face of disruption caused by the pandemic.

At Swindon Academy, the school’s first cohort of Grammar Stream students received their GCSE qualifications today. Demonstrating the programme’s success, three students who have progressed through the Grammar Stream have been awarded full scholarships to attend Marlborough College Sixth Form. They are Amberly Pereira, who received nine Grade 9s, Louie Wilkins and Caroline Powney.

Other Year 11s who are enjoying success today, both in the Grammar Stream and in mainstream classes, and will be taking up their places at the school’s United College Sixth Form (UCSF) in September include:

  • Pratiksha Punmagar, who was awarded nine Grade 9s;
  • Freya Isom, who was awarded seven Grade 9s and three Grade 7s;
  • Phetogo Aphane, who was awarded five Grade 9s, three Grade 7s and a Distinction in Engineering;
  • Mara-Iona Nita, who was awarded three Grade 9s and two Grade 8s;
  • Joshua Aliu, who was awarded four Grade 8s and five Grade 7s.

Likewise, standout individual successes at Nova Hreod Academy include:

  • Emily Cole, who was awarded eight Grade 9s and a Grade 8;
  • Hana Moyse, who was awarded eight Grade 9s and a Grade 8;
  • Sophie Buckett, who was awarded seven Grade 9s and two Grade 8s;
  • Xander Moore, who was awarded six Grade 9s and three Grade 8s;
  • Pearly Bharlani, who was awarded four Grade 9s and five Grade 8s.

Congratulating the students on their qualifications, Ruth Robinson, Executive Principal at Nova Hreod and Swindon Academy, said:

“At both Nova Hreod and Swindon Academy students have addressed the challenges of the last eighteen months head on and have been remarkable in their continued self-discipline and approach to learning.

“This year we are delighted that at Swindon Academy our first cohort of Grammar Stream students have graduated with excellent individual awards at GCSE. The Grammar Stream has been a fantastic boost to the academy and has made a positive difference in so many aspects of school life.

“When we and colleagues from Marlborough College established the Grammar Stream we could have no idea of the challenges that these students would face during their GCSE years. But what is remarkable is that each student has succeeded in meeting the academic demands and expectations that have been placed on them and have thrived as they have progressed through the school.

“I would like to congratulate every student who is celebrating today and look forward to many of them joining our United College Sixth Form in September.”
