Lambeth Academy celebrates Oxbridge and Russell Group offers

Lambeth Academy’s Sixth Formers are set to take up places on some of the UK’s most prestigious and competitive university courses – with one young aspiring medic heading to the University of Cambridge.

This year, A Levels were awarded following Teacher Assessed Grades (TAGs) due to the cancellation of external examinations. At Lambeth Academy, students sat in-class exams and completed coursework as part of this rigorous assessment process.

Across the morning, celebrations got underway at the academy as students secured an impressive array of university offers, many of which were their first-choice places.

Among the highlights of the day was the news that Year 13 Tawab had secured his place at Homerton College at the University of Cambridge to read Medicine. He was just one of the Sixth Formers who was inspired by the efforts of the medical profession over the past 18 months – Year 13 Lola will also be training as a doctor when she takes up her place at the University of Leeds.

Beyond medicine, students’ destinations this year demonstrate the breadth of talent and interests nurtured across Lambeth Academy Sixth Form – from engineering and physics, to Japanese and music. For example, aspiring musician and songwriter Morgan will be continuing to develop his craft at the Leeds Conservatoire after making use of Lambeth Academy’s specialist music facilities.

Other individuals celebrating excellent offers included:

  • Matheus, who will be heading off to Imperial College London to study Physics;
  • Alic, who will be starting a degree in Engineering at University College London;
  • Mariam, who is off to King’s College London to study Religion, Philosophy and Ethics;
  • Ikram, who has gained a highly competitive place to study Children’s Nursing at King’s College London;
  • Jade, who has secured a place at the University of Bristol to study Psychology;
  • Ellie who is going to the University of Manchester to study Drama;
  • Yaqub who is taking up a place at the local St George’s University London to study Biomedical Science;
  • Fatoumata, Jerome, Javaine and David, who are all going to Queen Mary University of London to study Business.

Amy Welch, Principal of Lambeth Academy, said:

“We could not be more pleased and proud for our Sixth Formers today as they receive their university offers and begin to take their next steps as adults. As staff, our aim is to give each of our students a rich education with character that prepares them for successful lives – with the qualifications, skills and confidence to be the best they can be. It is gratifying to see this ethos reflected in the range and high quality of our Year 13s’ university offers this year, from medicine at Cambridge to the Leeds Conservatoire.

“Alongside congratulating students, it is important to credit our staff whose ambition, encouragement and perseverance has been phenomenal. This is true every year, but has never been more important than over the past 18 months. I know they will all want to join me in wishing our Year 13s the best as they start university and look forward to hearing about all their successes to come.”
