Manchester United star Chris Smalling paid a surprise visit to The Hyndburn Academy last week as part of the Football Beyond Borders (FBB) programme.
Launched at schools across the North West earlier this year, FBB aims to improve young people’s engagement in and attitudes towards their learning, helping to break down barriers through the medium of football.
And last week, students from The Hyndburn Academy taking part in the programme were rewarded for their hard work and dedication with a special session with the premier league star, who is also an ambassador for FBB.
During his visit which took place on Friday (14th June) afternoon, Chris spoke about the importance of hard work in helping him to achieve his goals. He described how he overcame the challenges he has faced in his own life, both professionally and personally, and emphasised the importance of following your dreams. He talked about the impact of social media and his plans for the future before answering questions from his eager audience.
Nicola Palmer, Head Teacher at The Hyndburn Academy, said:
“We’re extremely grateful that Chris was able to celebrate the success of our students involved in the Football Beyond Borders programme. FBB is already making a real difference to our students and directly supports our commitment to deliver an Education with Character.”
