Surbiton High School have had a fantastic weekend of gymnastics! The school entered five teams in the Regional Floor and Vault competition and were delighted when the U11 boys' team, and the U14 and U19 girls' teams won their events and will represent Surbiton High School and the London Region in the National Finals in May. The U11 girls A team won a silver medal and the U11 B team a bronze, both teams improving significantly on last year's performance and ranking.
This is the first time that the boys have won this event and for Gym Captain, Christian Jones and his team mates Neo Suhraj-Hammerl, David McNeil, Tom Hunt, Theo Smith and Ewan de Saram this will be their first national competition.
The older girls are no strangers to this level of competition. They wowed the audience with near perfect routines and deserved their gold medals.
Although this was a team competition, there were awards for the highest scoring gymnast, combining their vault and floor routine scores.
We were thrilled when the judges announced that not only had Kitty Williams won the all-round individual gold medal in the U14 category, but Martha Franks had won silver and Niamh Meany had won bronze!
In the U19 category, Eleanor Franks won gold and Lizzie Harraghy won silver. These truly outstanding results are due to the hard work and dedication of their coaches, Nic Osborn (who attended, even though she is 39 weeks pregnant!), Natalie Crosland, Adam Buckingham and Nick Illingworth as well as the phenomenal skill of the boys and girls.
