United Learning has announced the appointment of Richard Carter as the new Chairman of Midhurst Rother College’s Local Governing Body. He succeeds David Anderson who has held the position since the College opened in 2009.
Richard, Director of Global Communications for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, is based in Chichester.
Born in South Africa and after completing BA and LLB Degrees, he worked in a number of public affairs roles and as Presidential Press Secretary to President F.W. de Klerk, during the run-up to South Africa's transition to full democracy in 1994. Richard then began a career in communications within the automotive industry.
Announcing his appointment, Jon Coles, Chief Executive of United Learning said:
'I am delighted that Richard has agreed to become Chairman of the school's local governing body. Midhurst Rother College is an outstanding school and Richard's global experience, knowledge and contacts will be a very positive addition to the school. His appointment also begins the fostering of an ongoing relationship with Rolls-Royce Motor Cars who play a vital role in the engineering and technology sectors in the UK and for whom our students can be the highly skilled employees of the future.'
Richard Carter said:
'Midhurst Rother College is an excellent school and I am looking forward to working closely with the staff, students and parents over the coming years. This is a truly aspirational school which has become a first choice for local families and I hope that, as a school community, we can continue to build on its success.'
Dr Joe Vitagliano, Principal of the College said:
'It shows the strength of the College that we are able to attract someone with Richard’s track record to become our governing body Chair. He takes over from David Anderson who has served us with distinction over the past six years and everyone at the College will be delighted to welcome him into our school community.'
