United Learning has today announced the appointment of Mr Andy Griffin as Executive Principal for Manchester Academy.
Mr Griffin joins the academy from Broadoak School in Partington which, as part of the Dean Trust, he has led from being a school causing serious concerns to “outstanding”.
Mr Griffin succeeds Dr Antony Edkins who has been appointed Chief Executive of the Landau Forte Charitable Trust and will take up this post during the summer.
Commenting on the appointment, Janet Woods Director of Academies (North) for United Learning said:
'Andy is an exceptional leader, highly experienced and a designated Local Leader in Education. He has worked with United Learning over the past two years helping us drive up improvement in Sheffield and is somebody with the right skills and commitment to take Manchester Academy forward as it continues to improve.'
Mr Griffin said:
“I am delighted to have been appointed Executive Principal of Manchester Academy. It is a school which has a superb reputation and where results show significant gains are made by its students. It has for many years been a United Learning flagship academy in the North and I can't wait to take the helm. The students and staff were very welcoming on my recent visits. It serves a fabulous and thriving community in Moss Side and its popularity as a local school reflects its current success and future potential."
From this September, Manchester Academy has agreed to a request from Manchester City Council to take on an additional Year 7 class due to the demand for places at successful Manchester schools.
The Dean Trust, as a key partner of the Academy and United Learning, will work alongside Mr Griffin to ensure that the students receive the very best education.
