The Mini London Marathon invites schools to run, walk or wheel one mile or 2.6 kilometres and soak up the atmosphere in the heart of the capital. 40 pupils from Langford Primary School took on the course and were rewarded with a medal at the finish line for their fantastic efforts.
Since September, pupils have been training in the school’s running club to prepare for the event. Their running club coach, Miss Pengilly, also ran in the full Marathon on Sunday and inspired pupils by taking on the challenge of running 26.2 miles.
Victoria Kidds, Headteacher at Langford Primary School, said:
"We are thrilled that forty children from Langford ran in the Mini London Marathon on Saturday. The children have been training in our running club since September and this is definitely the highlight of their sporting year. Their determination to finish was incredible and we were blown away by the times of some of our runners. Our fastest runner completed 2.6km in just under 12 minutes. We hope the event has inspired them to keep running. What an emotional day!"
Miss Pengilly, the running club coach at Langford Primary, said:
"I am so proud of the children who ran in the Mini Marathon, particularly those who have only taken up running this year. It was amazing to see everyone giving it their best and not giving up on any part of the course. Well done, Langford!"
