Windale Primary School recently welcomed kOrky Paul, illustrator of the popular 'Winnie and Wilbur' series, after winning a competition to endpages of the latest book, ‘Looking for Wilbur’. From 150 entries, kOrky selected 26 Primary School pupils to feature in the new release.
kOrky visited the school for a special assembly where he unveiled the book, read some excerpts, signed copies for the winners, and presented prizes from The Story Museum in Oxford.
A familiar face at Primary School, kOrky previously opened the school library in 2018 and helped design a mural in 2021.
Since its debut in 1987, the ‘Winnie and Wilbur’ series has sold over 10 million copies worldwide, making this a truly special opportunity for the young illustrators.
Illustrator kOrky Paul, said: “I was impressed with the artwork the Windale children did for a mural I designed and painted - so they were a natural choice to do the endpapers in the latest picture book in the Winnie and Wilbur series “Looking for Wilbur”.
Zak, one of the winners selected to illustrate in the next book, said: “Meeting kOrky Paul was a once in a lifetime experience! I feel fantastic and really proud to be a winner!”
Katie Geran-Haq, Principal at Windale Primary School, said: “The children here at Windale Primary School are big fans of kOrky Paul, so it was exciting to find out that they were invited to enter the competition. Massive congratulations of course go to the winning pupils, who were selected from a pool of impressive entries.
Thank you again to kOrky Paul for sharing this memorable opportunity with our pupils, for his support of our school and for visiting to present the pupils with their awards.”
