Sports ambassador, Adele Carson, visits the south coast school
Bournemouth Collegiate School was delighted to welcome two swimming synchronisation champions to the school; Katie Dawkins who is a 2012 Olympian and Adele Carson who, as well as being a European and Commonwealth medal winner, has coached the GB synchronisation teams for many years. Adele is also a Sports Ambassador for the United Learning, who represents the Group’s core value of ‘creativity’.
Adele started the morning by sharing her knowledge, skill and passion for the sport with the eager pupils who listened intently. She told the enthralled group of girls about the level of training, commitment, creativity and technical skill required to perform at a top level in the sport.
Pupils were then joined by Katie in the pool and Adele poolside and learnt some key synchronisation skills.
Katie said, 'It was great to see all the pupils trying a new sport. They managed to successfully do skulling, back lay out and tubs. It was impressive!'
Year 6 pupil, Megan Harwood said, 'We learnt loads. Some of the techniques were quite tricky and we would need to practice lots but it was really good fun.'
Adele who is also a director at Aquabatix, the company which reached the Britain’s Got Talent Final last year and impressed the judges with their team of synchronised swimmers, commented, 'It was an absolute pleasure to be invited in to BCS to introduce synchronised swimming in a creative way to the pupils, to see them coached by an Olympian and learn different skills in the water. Some pupils have picked it up really quickly. We hope that they might continue with what they have learnt.'
