Principal Appointed for Goresbrook School

United Learning is delighted to announce that it has appointed a Principal for its proposed free school, currently known as ‘Goresbrook School’, which is due to open in September 2014.

Miss Clare Darley will be Goresbrook School’s first Principal and will take up the post full time in April. Miss Darley is currently Vice Principal at United Learning’s Paddington Academy which has been judged ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted and is one of the most improved schools in London. She began her teaching career as a science teacher before taking on a number of leadership positions at the academy. Miss Darley has also worked alongside Wilberforce Primary School in West London supporting staff to raise the standard of teaching and learning at the school.

Goresbrook School will be based on the large Goresbrook Leisure Centre site on Ripple Road. The school will initially open with a Reception group and build its pupil numbers a year at a time. It will eventually cater for 1,355 children aged 3-18. Any child who starts the school in Reception will be guaranteed a place in the secondary phase of the school. As the only mainstream all-through school in Barking and Dagenham, pupils will receive a continuously high standard of education throughout their school years.

Commenting on her appointment, Miss Darley said:

'I am delighted to have been appointed Principal of Goresbrook School. The plans which are already in place for the new school are incredibly exciting and I can’t wait to start working with the rest of the team.

'As a brand new school, we have the opportunity to create something very special for children in Barking and Dagenham. It is my aim that every single child at the school receives a fun, rewarding and exceptional education whilst benefiting from the very best pastoral care and support.'

Announcing the appointment, Darran Lee, Director of Primary Provision at United Learning, said:

'We are thrilled to have appointed Miss Darley to be the first Principal of Goresbrook School. Clare is a talented and inspirational school leader and we have every confidence that under her leadership Goresbrook School will have the best possible start. She has considerable experience of working with pupils of all ages making her the ideal Principal to lead and develop the all-through school.'

Prospective parents will have an opportunity to meet Miss Darley at an Open Event which is being held on 8 January between 10am and 2pm at Dagenham Library, 1 Church Elm Lane, Dagenham RM10 9QS. Parents are welcome to drop in to find out more about the school and ask any questions they may have.

Applications for places in the school’s Reception in 2014 close on 15 January. There are 90 places available for children in Reception which are open to boys and girls of all abilities and backgrounds. As a fully inclusive school, Goresbrook School will welcome all children from the local community. All places will be free of charge. Admissions are being carried out through Barking and Dagenham Council’s admissions process.
