United Learning is delighted to announce that it has appointed a Principal for its proposed free school, currently known as ‘Goresbrook School’, which is due to open in September 2014.
Miss Clare Darley will be Goresbrook School’s first Principal and will take up the post full time in April. Miss Darley is currently Vice Principal at United Learning’s Paddington Academy which has been judged ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted and is one of the most improved schools in London. She began her teaching career as a science teacher before taking on a number of leadership positions at the academy. Miss Darley has also worked alongside Wilberforce Primary School in West London supporting staff to raise the standard of teaching and learning at the school.
Goresbrook School will be based on the large Goresbrook Leisure Centre site on Ripple Road. The school will initially open with a Reception group and build its pupil numbers a year at a time. It will eventually cater for 1,355 children aged 3-18. Any child who starts the school in Reception will be guaranteed a place in the secondary phase of the school. As the only mainstream all-through school in Barking and Dagenham, pupils will receive a continuously high standard of education throughout their school years.
Commenting on her appointment, Miss Darley said:

'As a brand new school, we have the opportunity to create something very special for children in Barking and Dagenham. It is my aim that every single child at the school receives a fun, rewarding and exceptional education whilst benefiting from the very best pastoral care and support.'
