Students show off their talents at Foundation Day Ceremony
Seahaven Academy has welcomed the local community for a special Foundation Day ceremony that formally celebrated its opening and shared the new school’s vision and ethos. The Newhaven secondary school became an academy in April of this year, when it joined United Learning.
Partnership was very much the theme of the day as United Learning’s Chief Executive, Jon Coles, visited the school with a number of colleagues. Parents and a range of local businesses, schools and colleges were also invited to discuss how to provide the best possible educational experiences for young people in the Newhaven area.
The afternoon began with tours of the academy to meet students, see some of their work and the activities they take part in on a daily basis. Guests were also invited to a formal Foundation Day ceremony which showcased the talents of Seahaven Academy students through a variety of performances. These included a performance by the recently elected Young Mayor, a Year 7 ensemble to mark Remembrance Day and a group presentation from the school show, ‘Alice’.
The academy’s Principal, Sarah Pringle; a former Vice Principal at United Learning’s outstanding Midhurst Rother College, said:
“Our Foundation Day marks the start of a bright future for Seahaven Academy, and also celebrates our students’ talents in a year where they achieved their best ever GCSE results. There is heaps of ability and potential here and, as part of United Learning, we will nurture it to help everyone achieve their ambitions.”
Jon Coles said:
“It has been a pleasure to visit Seahaven Academy and formally welcome the school into United Learning. It has been great to see the enthusiasm and commitment of staff and students today and I am excited about how the school is continuing to develop under the leadership of Sarah Pringle as it works with the rest of United Learning to continue to improve and become excellent.”
