The contest saw schools from across the region compete for the title of Under 19s Basketball Champions, with the final held on Wednesday 8th May at the academy’s Queen’s Road West site.
Coming out on top were Accrington Academy, who defeated Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School 60 - 54 in the final, completing an unbeaten run throughout the competition.
Coached by Steven Gayle and led by Captain Bailey Thompson Western, Accrington Academy’s winning team comprised:
- Cole Baron
- Luke Parker
- Mohammed Ahmed
- Al Mustapha Ayinla
- Zain Hussain
- Jack Boulter
- Charlie Atheis
- Simon Jimmichan
Commenting on the team’s success, Accrington Academy Head Teacher James Kerfoot said:
“It’s a fantastic achievement in itself to have won the Lancashire Cup, but to have successfully completed the competition without being beaten is incredible. It’s also another great example of the school’s commitment to provide an ‘Education with Character,’ with a focus on students’ development outside as well as inside the classroom.”
