Students at John Smeaton Academy celebrate GCSE results

Students and staff at John Smeaton Academy are celebrating today after receiving their GCSE results.

51% of students achieved five or more 9-4/A*-C grades including English and maths, under this year’s new GCSE grading structure.

This follows some strong results for John Smeaton’s Sixth Form last week, which saw students moving on to take up places on high-quality university and training courses.

There were also a number of particularly strong individual results, including for:

  • Grace Tran, who achieved five 9s, four 8s and one 7;
  • Max Holley, who was awarded two 9s, five 8s, one 7 and two 6s;
  • Rosie Wyatt, who came away with two 9s, three 8s, one 7, one 6 and four 5s;
  • Tobi Hector Goma, who achieved one 9, two 8s, six 7s and one 6.

Claire Bailey, Head of School at John Smeaton Academy, said:

“Our students can be pleased today that their hard work over the past two years has rewarded them with some very strong GCSE results. These achievements lay the foundations for the next stages of their school careers and will stand them in good stead as they look ahead to their university and higher education options. I am also pleased that so many of our students will be returning this autumn to our Sixth Form, which also enjoyed some excellent A Levels success last week.”
