The Hyndburn Academy will be sharing the secrets of its success with parents and prospective students at its 18th September open evening, following a summer of success in its GCSEs.
A year after joining the United Learning group of schools and academies, the Hyndburn Academy recorded its best ever results, with 58% of students (compared to 37% last year) achieving five or more 9-4/A*-C grades including English and maths under the new GCSE grading structure, making it the most improved school across United Learning and one of the most improved school in Lancashire.
A further 17% of students gained grades 7-9, the equivalent of A-A*, with 43% achieving a grade 5 – the equivalent of a B or higher.
Now Executive Principal Andy O’Brien, Head of School Emma Starkey and their team are preparing to share that success when they stage an open evening at the Rishton based school on Tuesday 18th September.
Running from 6pm to 8pm, the event will see students and staff reveal the secrets behind the school’s improvement, with guided tours for guests, as well as the opportunity to take part in a range of activities and demonstrations from across the curriculum, with refreshments also provided. Activities include:
- Dance, drama and music performances
- Sporting challenges
- GCSE English Literature - themed characters
- Treasure trail with prizes
- Computer programming
Commented Mr O’Brien:
“We are delighted with the progress that the school has made in the last 12 months, with the summer’s exam results the icing on the cake. As a school at the heart of its community, we now want to share that success and continued determination to improve with prospective students and their parents, giving them an opportunity to see how we aim to bring out the best in everyone through the provision of an outstanding education.”
Added Ms Starkey:
“Here at The Hyndburn Academy, we are incredibly ambitious for all of our students and know that by working together with parents and carers, our students can achieve anything and everything that they desire.”
For those unable to attend the open evening, The Hyndburn Academy is also offering the opportunity for personal visits/guided tours. These can be arranged by contacting the school on 01254 885378 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
