Walthamstow Academy celebrates best ever GCSE results

Students at Walthamstow Academy have today received their GCSE results which are the school’s highest yet.

75% of students achieved five or more 9-4/A*-C grades including English and maths, under this year’s new GCSE grading structure. This beats the academy’s previous best performance in equivalent grades.

The majority of those celebrating will now join the academy’s thriving Sixth Form which last week celebrated another strong set of A Level results.

Those celebrating included:

  • Harith Ahmed who is looking forwards to studying at Walthamstow Academy Sixth Form next year. His results included a 9, 8, 8, A and a double distinction*.
    Harith said:
“I am overwhelmed with the results I received; certainly better than I could have expected. Revision was very important.”
  • Omayma Bouaziz achieved 8 GCSEs (including a 9 and three grade 8s) and a double Distinction*.

I am pleased that I can move forwards with more opportunities and, more importantly, with confidence in myself. Hard work breeds success”.
  • Varsha Paheerathan achieved eight GCSEs, including a 9, an 8 and two grade 7s, and also a double Distinction* at BTEC.
    Varsha said:

Emma Skae, Principal of Walthamstow Academy, said:

“I am very pleased with these results and for the students who have done so well today. They have always been a lovely year group and it has been a delight today to see them open their results.”

“I am particularly pleased that we will be welcoming so many of them into our Sixth Form in September as it continues to go from strength to strength. The role that our staff play in encouraging our students to do their best is significant and I would like to thank and congratulate them on their vital contribution to our success.”
