Academy school achieves top business award
Walthamstow Academy students and staff are celebrating after being awarded the prestigious Investors in People (IIP) Gold level accreditation at the first time of applying.
The IIP Gold Award recognises the strength of the leadership of the academy, its high-quality professional development and training programmes and the way in which it supports every student and member of staff to achieve their best.
The assessment process took place over three and a half days in November and involved an IIP assessor meeting and interviewing staff and students. The assessor was very impressed by what she observed and gave the academy a Gold level award, the highest possible rating.
Walthamstow Academy received a glowing report in which the Investors in People assessor praised the way in which the academy lives up to its mission to bring out the best in everyone. The assessor, Julia Houghton reported:
‘The Academy is talent driven and excellent at both spotting and developing potential. It is a good place in which to develop and to grow.’
The assessor found strong evidence to demonstrate how the academy provides numerous opportunities for staff to progress their careers within the academy. She was also very impressed by the way in which the academy develops and nurtures its staff reporting:
‘Learning is at the heart of the culture, and managers undoubtedly act as role models for this: they are willing to learn from each other and embrace both external and internal feedback.’
She went on to say:
‘The school truly believes in valuing its staff and generates a culture of appreciation, praise and recognition.’
