William Hulme’s Grammar School’s (WHGS) Key Stage 3 girl’s football squad proved their skills on the pitch last week, making it to the final of Manchester City’s Premier League Football Tournament.
Held at the Premier League Champion’s Etihad Training Complex on Thursday 28th February, the one day event saw WHGS’s ten strong squad of Year 7, 8 and 9 students competing against schools from across Greater Manchester, making it through to the semi-finals where they beat Denton Community College 1-0, with Year 7 Matilde Pinto scoring the only goal.
Whilst the team lost 1-0 to Rayner Stephens High School in the final, they can be proud of a series of excellent performances, helping put them on the map locally for girls’ football.
Congratulations to all of the WHGS players – Paige, Esmay, Daisy, Ava, Jasmin, Areeba, Matilde, Maria, Duaa and Kashmala, with Areeba Raza being voted one of the players of the tournament by the Manchester City Community Staff.
Peter Mulholland, Principal of William Hulme’s Grammar School, said:
“As a school committed to providing our students with an Education with Character, it’s fantastic to see our Key Stage 3 girls performing so brilliantly in this exciting competition.”
