We believe that every student in a United Learning classroom deserves an outstanding learning experience every lesson, every day. In order to achieve this we need to ensure that every United Learning teacher receives high quality professional development and feedback on their teaching so that they can be an excellent teacher. We also believe that every member of support staff, both within schools and at Central Office, deserves high quality professional development and feedback on their practice so that they are able to create the conditions for excellent teaching and learning.
Learning and development is an integral part of United Learning life
We are continuously working to ensure that the highest quality CPD is offered to all staff. With this in mind, we launched our own corporate university in September 2013: the United Learning Institute. The United Learning Institute is a really important driver for us in terms of bringing out the best in everyone and was co-created by staff in schools in order to ensure that we are offering the very best and most relevant opportunities.
People Development Pathways
The curriculum for the United Learning Institute is based on our People Development Pathways; these pathways give staff a clearly defined career path with associated development for each stage. It makes clear our consistent expectation for all colleagues and provides a framework and process that is consistent across all our schools. As a widely-promoted initiative for all staff, the People Development Pathways are very accessible and online portals will allow all individuals to track their own CPD. Pathways exist for staff in all areas of the group such as: teaching assistants, administrative support staff, technical specialists, professional groups, teachers, middle leaders, senior leaders, business managers, heads and governors.
The United Learning Teaching Schools Alliance
The United Learning Institute is governed by the United Learning Teaching School Alliance, which includes all United Learning Schools, and is led by National Teaching School, and Sunday Times Independent School of the Year 2012-13, Guildford High School, and works to enhance schools’ own CPD offering.
