In their report, the inspectors praised the school for its warm and friendly culture. They noted that “pupils feel happy and safe in this caring school” and that they benefit from “high-quality” pastoral support. Importantly, students are also said to be “kind to one another” and to “value each other’s uniqueness”.
The inspectors were equally impressed by the quality of the academic curriculum. They found this to be underpinned by the school’s “ambition for pupils to climb high and achieve well”, whilst students know that “there is no ceiling put on their success”. The inspectors were also pleased to find that “passionate teachers with secure subject knowledge explain ideas clearly” and that recent outcomes are much improved.
Alongside the curriculum, the inspectors likewise praised the school’s work to prepare students for life in modern Britain. For example, a “carefully constructed careers programme” enables students to make informed choices about their futures, whilst leadership roles and the academy’s personal development programme are said to offer them a “variety of rich experiences that equip them with the skills and knowledge that they need to thrive”.
Janine McCann, Principal at Stockport Academy, said:
“I am very pleased that Ofsted has rated Stockport Academy ‘good’ in all areas and that the inspectors’ report is full of praise for our school. In particular, I am delighted that the inspectors commented on our friendly, vibrant and aspirational school culture in which everyone is supported to be the best they can be.”
