Commenting on the performance of the 18 United Learning academies that have received GCSE and equivalent results today, Group Chief Executive Jon Coles said:

“I would like to congratulate all our students and staff who are celebrating success in their results today. Across the country we have had some excellent results which have given us an average improvement of 5%.

“In particular I would like to congratulate Joe Vitagliano at Midhurst Rother College. For the second year in a row the College has achieved a significant increase in its results. Students and staff there are celebrating a 20% point increase in 5+ A*-C including English and maths raising it to 73%.

“Likewise Maria Nightingale and our colleagues at Sheffield Park Academy have also increased their results significantly and colleagues across the country including at Accrington Academy, Paddington Academy, Shoreham Academy, Northampton Academy and North Oxfordshire Academy have also very good reasons to be celebrating”.

“What is particularly pleasing is that students across the country at our academies have been achieving the grades needed to enter our Sixth Forms and continue their education at schools where they feel motivated, engaged, happy and able to succeed”.

United Learning academies’ average for 2012 is 53.5% for 5+ A*-C GCSEs including English and maths. This has increased from 48.5% in 2011 for all those schools receiving results today.
