From Finance to HR: Laura's Journey at United Learning

Laura, a Business Intelligence Analyst at United Learning, recently shared her experience of joining the company as a Finance Analyst and later transitioning to the HR department.

Here's what she had to say:

"When I joined United Learning in April 2021, I was a Finance Analyst with a background in accountancy and HR. My first role was Junior Business Intelligence Developer, which was challenging as I had no prior experience in technology or reporting. Despite this, I was able to utilise my transferable skills and experience in accountancy and HR to excel in the role."

In May 2022, Laura made the transition from the technology team to the HR department. Reflecting on the smooth transition between departments, she said: "My line manager had accepted an internal role in another department, so it was the perfect opportunity to review my role. I felt like I already knew all the people I was moving into a team with."

United Learning's commitment to professional development and continuous learning stood out to Laura from the start when she was offered professional development opportunities. She said: "When I joined my role was junior, and I was offered excellent CPD support where I had one afternoon a week for study leave and access to courses to support my learning. I have gained loads of new skills, further developing excel skills and providing excel training for others."

What makes working for United Learning special for Laura is the focus on children and education. She said: "Being able to visit schools and see the results of my work, hearing first-hand how the reports I produce have been a lifesaver for them by giving them more time with their pupils, is so important to me. I feel proud to work for an organisation where children are at the heart of the decisions that are made."

Laura's career change has been a career highlight for her, with her going on to say: "The fact that I am here, and UL gave me this opportunity to have the career change, that as a whole has made my experience really great."

Laura is also grateful to be part of United Learning's diversity and inclusion group. "Having the opportunity to take an hour or two out of my role to focus on important social issues is really important. The world is changing all the time, and we need to be on top of these things, so that everybody from employees to students at our schools and in our offices feel safe in their place of study/work."

United Learning's commitment to professional development, focus on education, and inclusive culture, has made Laura's journey with the company an incredibly positive one.
