GCSE breakthrough at The Hyndburn Academy

A year after joining United Learning, The Hyndburn Academy is celebrating a significant improvement in its GCSE results.

58% of students achieved five or more 9-4/A*-C grades including English and maths, under this year’s new GCSE grading structure; a significant increase from last year, which saw 37% of students achieve equivalent grades.

Amongst the many success stories the academy are celebrating:

  • Head Boy, Lewis Nield Ali achieving 9 GCSEs at grade 7-9;
  • Head Girl, Ella Ditchfiled securing 10 GCSEs at grade 7-9;
  • Cinthia Dai achieving all 8 & 9 grades.

Andy O’Brien, Executive Principal of The Hyndburn Academy, said:

“We are delighted that after just 12 months we have achieved 58% of students achieving a good pass.  Such a positive improvement can only be achieved through hard work.  We are pleased that these grades give the foundations for students to move onto the next steps.  I am confident that The Hyndburn Academy will go from strength to strength.”

Emma Starkey, Head of School added:

“We are pleased that the hard work the staff and students have put in has produced such an excellent set of results.  We are particularly proud that over 10% of the pupils achieved the 7-9 grades in English and Maths.  These results are testament to the diligence and dedication of our whole team; staff, students and families alike.  The local community can be proud of the fact that The Hyndburn Academy has created the platform for future success.  Congratulations to the class off 2018!”
