Another year of GCSE celebrations at Swindon Academy

Celebrations are underway at Swindon Academy, after students achieved another strong set of GCSE results.  61% of students achieved five or more good passes (grade 4 or above) including English and maths.

There were also a number of individual successes including:

  • Aarjavi Maheshwari who achieved six Grade 9s, one Grade 8, one Grade 6 and a Distinction;
  • Vlad Creanga who achieved three Grade 9s, two Grade 8s, three Grade 7s and two Distinctions;
  • Zara Bourne who achieved three Grade 8s, one Grade 7, four Grade 6s and a Distinction;
  • Rasik Chhetri who achieved five Grade 8s, three Grade 7s, one Distinction* and a Distinction;
  • Ben Bicknell who achieved four Grade 8s, three Grade 6s, one Distinction* and a Distinction.

These results follow last week’s strong A Level results when 26% of entries achieved A* to B grades.

Ruth Robinson, Executive Principal of Swindon Academy, said:

“Once again the hard work of our students and staff has produced another very good set of results.  I would like to congratulate everyone on their achievements today which they so thoroughly deserve.  For many, these results will give them the basis for a successful two years in our Sixth Form which, as last week’s results showed, is going from strength to strength.

“We will begin the new academic year buoyed by these results and look forward to another successful year at Swindon Academy.”

Zara Bourne said:

“I got a grade 8 in maths!  I have no idea how that happened but I’m delighted with the result.  I’m really pleased with my Distinction* in PE, I knew I had that already but it’s great to see it along with my other results.”

Ben Bicknell said:

“I joined Swindon Academy in Year 8 and it was the best decision ever made.  I got a Distinction* in Music, that’s insane!  I’m also proud of my English grade.  I was really struggling but I worked really hard and pulled it back; without the teachers this wouldn’t have been possible, I’m so grateful.  I’ve been accepted into the STEM Grammar Stream in Sixth Form so I’m also really excited about that!”

Ben’s mum added:

“The passion of the teachers at Swindon Academy is incredible.  They are installing a passion for learning in children, not just teaching them.  I have never seen a school with so many passionate staff; it’s inspiring and has been hugely beneficial for my son.”

Rasik Chhetri said:

“I’m so chuffed with my science grades; I got a grade 8 in biology, chemistry and physics.  I worked really hard and it’s paid off!  I’m going to study biology, chemistry and maths in the STEM Grammar Stream here and then I want to go to university to study Dentistry.”

Owen said:

“I’m shocked and delighted with my grades, particularly English and Geography and a distinction in Drama.  I’m really thankful for the effort that the teachers have put in to helping me get these grades.  They have come in during the holidays and run extra classes before and after school.  I’m really lucky to have such a dedicated team of teachers.”
